Thursday Tip: Perfectly Painted Nails

Hi everyone!  Hope you all had a great holiday season!  After a little break from posting and collecting some wonderful feedback from friends, I found that the Thursday Tip is quite popular.  Therefore, for my first post of 2013, I am going to discuss the annoying and all too common issue of nail polish mishaps.  If you are anything like me, you probably have developed some pretty elaborate plans in order to successfully leave the nail salon smudge free.  Used to be, I would manage to mess my perfectly painted nails up within minutes of leaving the salon.  Finally, I found a solution that works!  In order to leave the salon smudge free: wait 5 minutes after applying the polish, and then place your nails under ice cold water.  If possible, keep your nails submerged for at least 3 minutes.  Voila!   Your nails are now all set, and you can leave the salon without any worries of a nail mishap.

I’ve heard of this tip before, but my nails still smudged, but maybe if I try it for 3 minutes like you suggested that won’t happen again, thank you:)

Hi Kate! Thank you so much for your comment. Definitely the longer you can keep your nails under the water the more likely the cold water is to set the polish. I use ice cold water for a minimum of 3 minutes, and this works for me. Other people I know place their hands under cold running water for a minute, but I have found that this does not work as well.

    Best,
    Katherine
